Many congratulations on running the Cairngorm Charmer. I will read about it in the Strathy - and was disappointed only that I was not able to take part myself. You do have a future career as a disc jockey I'm convinced of that.
Best wishes
Fergus Ewing MSP

Thank you to you and your team for organising the event. I certainly enjoyed it, worth the trip up. You asked for comments, so here we go; the cycle ride should be longer, noticeably longer, say 12 miles. That’s it! And an observation; some marshals were very good; those at the road crossing, others were rather laisez faire; us competitors need to be told what to do especially when tired and a little confused. I know it is difficult with volunteers but I personally managed to get lost at the transition, both times! See you next year! - John

What an event you and your team put on at the weekend. It was spectacular, it was well run and marshalled and it was a little charmer with the cheeky climb at the end. Well done in organising the event and I am sure it will become a must do Hill runners duathlon.
All the best - Ian

Thanks very much for a great day at the Charmer and please pass on our thanks to all the marshals who had to brave the conditions. They were a bunch of stars managing to stay so enthusiastic. The running route is very pretty and finishing with the uphill makes a change and adds to the interest. The cycle route may be better if it were longer. How about using heading over to Loch an Eilein? The day lodge made for a very cosy place to recover and the veggie chilli was superb. All in all a grand day out!
All the best

Thanks for getting the results up so quickly, especially in light of Paul's change of plans. However, could I urge you to update the results with the age categories - for some of us there's really no relevance in comparing our time to the winner and it’s more important to see how we compared to other similar teams. Thanks in anticipation - Derek

Thanks for a wonderful day, although I think you might get done under the trade description act! I had a bit of an accident during the race and went for a massage which was brilliant and the guy knew how to help me and probably saved me from being amputated (ha ha!). Can you give me his address as I want to send a wee donation and a thank you card. By the way my sister has just ran the ‘Ben’ and said that the ‘Charmer’ was worse! Hope to see you next year. Well organised and great route. Cheers - Dumb & Dumber

Thanks again for a great event - Derek

Great event and format in a great location and nice to have something a bit different to take part in. The stewards and helpers were all brilliant and there was a wonderful camaraderie amongst everyone on the day. Think you might consider a slightly longer cycle route and review the transition capacity when the numbers go up next year as they will! An event not to be missed! Well done

What people say - comments & feedback

Thanks and congratulations on a brilliant event; the course was challenging and different; the last few miles tough but rewarding. Can't think of anything wrong so won't dwell on negatives, both myself and Sandy thoroughly enjoyed the whole day. Please pass our thanks on to all the amazing people who stood out in the wind and rain just so we could do what we enjoy doing - they were brilliant - Thanks again - Mark

Thanks for a great day - Brenda likes my new windswept look! If you would be kind enough to send me a copy of the results when they are available I will post them on the born2run site as well as you posting them on your own website. I have a further constructive suggestion which I hope you will take in good part. The run was certainly a challenge, but the bike was perhaps a bit short. How about increasing its length by taking it all the way round Loch Morlich, if the tracks exist to allow it. That would be a very attractive ride - Neil

I was in team 36 and had a great time and feel we owe you some feedback
(most v. positive!):
Great Event, and hope this spurs others on to do more biathlons, as many are runners & cyclists, as well as fact that not having swimming must ease logistics
Website great, as was the combination of fun and competition, which you got spot on
Organisation at transition and at the start great
Course great (but the downhill run at the start killed my calves; mental note; 10k on the flat easier than 4k downhill + 4k uphill!!)
Could have made cycling double the length; at around 20 min, is made the cycling bit a smallish component; reckon it could have gone to 8k / 40 min. Would it work to have running and cycling each making up 1/3 of the total time, as opposed to distance?
Marshalls great, and tried to gasp 'thanks' out to each as I passed them; all thanks to them again
We screwed up big time on the transition and missed each other for 13~15 mines 'till we hooked up again! Our fault not yours, as Runner #1 swapped top and we missed seeing him coming up, and as the wind was freezing both of us headed for cars to change / wait…and one had a new car so we lost each other! It was the wind which was awesome and the problem, but a lesson for us, if not you!
Next year, make it a round £20 and get t-shits which show the dirt less.
Other than that lot, no problems at all. Reckon you scored a 9.5/10
….. fantastic job! - Jim

Just want to say a huge thanks for a wonderful day. It was ‘a first’ but hopefully not ‘a last’. The weather was a "wee bit wild" but it was a great event. You asked us for feedback - Everything was brilliant. The marshal’s were stars. They were very supportive and encouraging. Please pass on big thanks to the marshal’s at transition. They were ace! Really appreciate all your efforts in organising this sort of event and giving us the opportunity to take part. Please pass on "Big Thanks" to everyone who made it possible. Looking forward to seeing you again.
Lynn "Big Mac and Fries."

Just a quick e-mail to say thank you so much again for sorting out the entry for Michelle and I! We both had a fantastic time- the course was much tougher than I thought it would be, the fact it was in the Cairngorms though should have been a clue!! Brilliant organisation though, will definitely get an entry in for next year if it is going ahead (but with a bit more hill training behind me!!). We were really disappointed that we could not stay for the prize giving however - when we went to start the car to take it back up to the top car park we discovered that we had flat battery so had to find a couple of strong lads to give us a push to get the engine started, so just had to head off after that!!- Many thanks again - Fiona and Michelle

Well done for a fantastic and unique little race! Running down a hill first kills the legs and I had a great race against an old lady walking her dog coming back up the hill in to that wind! My only thought, I wonder if a mass start would be possible, maybe from 500m from the start you had so it would give the competitor’s time to spread out before the descent. From a competitors point of view it would make for a better "race". It was hard to judge how we were progressing against other teams with the time trail type start. Even now I don’t know what our result was. With a mass start you generally know how you did when you cross the finish line. We all had a magic day, hope to see you next year - Tom

Sorry I didn't see you on Saturday. Thought the event was absolutely fantastic you and your helpers deserve great credit on organising anther quality event. I was speaking to a number of Marshals and they were full of enthusiasm about the whole thing. They deserve great praise for being out there for that length of time and being so cheery throughout. I have spoken to a couple of the competitors and they had nothing but praise for the whole event. Also I have posted a number of photographs of the first couple of hours on the web link as follows: http://mysite.orange.co.uk/redharrier/index2.htm
Please feel free to link up to it from the Charmer web site. If anyone would like a full resolution copy of the images posted just drop me line and I will e-mail it to them. Regards - Paul

Just a wee note to register my thanks for all the efforts of the guys. Route was great, stewards brilliant and the atmosphere was really good. The only wee note of criticism was that some of the faster competitors did "barge" their way down on the narrower sections of the first leg. I would only say a few guys did this but, if we had collided, then there would have been a hell of mess. Knowing the area I find it difficult to suggest an alternative route for the narrower section. Anyway enough of that, it was a great event, hope you have one next year and I'll be able to walk again some time next week. Cheers - Graham

Paul - another winning event by you. This is a first time race but will not be the last, please can you book us in for next year, (God forbid). A different event from the normal, another reason for enjoyment. The organisation was faultless, the four points below is for thought but not complaint:
1 Bike racks 200mm higher please.
2 Timber steps on down hill give fuzzy vision, could each last step be taped to stand out better for the oldies?
3 The handicap system, does not work. The 'B' boys & girls had it tough by increased wind speed!!
4 Is there a more compact way the race could be run to avoid those shivering in wait for mates?? Why could the 'B' not set off approx. 30 minutes after 'A'. This would work for shared bikes, the tag could be at the bike transition. This would let us get home earlier as several were at functions that night.
Hope these suggestions are not offensive to this good event. Thank you - Bert

I took part in the Charmer on Saturday. It was the first time that I have ever attempted anything like that before and I must admit that it was difficult but it was a challenge that I enjoyed. I think that with a little more preparation on my behalf I could have completed the course a lot quicker. The route itself was excellent and the marshals and support people were fantastic and truly appreciated. I hope that you raised a good amount of funds for the school and I once my legs start to feel like normal again I will seriously consider entering again next year. Kind Regards - Gordon

Hope you have recovered from Saturday. I just had to write to say thank you for a fabulous event - despite the windy conditions, which served to make it an even greater challenge. Bless you, you gave me a warming hug at the start line ( I was the other half of the Garioch Quines (team 5)). Everyone involved in the event was fantastic! It was hard enough running and cycling in that wind but it must have been just as bad having to stand around in it - so a huge thanks to everyone who helped out on the day and our family and friends who were there to support us. I want to say a special thanks to the marshal who helped me put my chain back on my bike, what a gentleman. Looking forward to next year! - Gillian x
Thank you very much for organising The Charmer. My running partner & I have never been so utterly knackered and glad to finish, but both enjoyed the day immensely! We were undoubtedly amongst the slowest competitors but felt the support we received was on par with that shown to the more athletic and your marshals all did an excellent job at organising and encouraging us as we made our way around the course. You asked for any constructive comments about the race and here are a couple we came up with:
1 The bike racks were a little short and overcrowded. Maybe an "A" rack and a "B" rack might have worked so the marshals knew which of the two bikes to get ready when a competitor approached. If both competitors were sharing a bike then I guess they could simply as the marshals to rack it in the "B" rack when "A" was finished with it.
2 A marshal at the turn off point on the bike run would have been useful. The sign had blown around when I got there and I only spotted the side track due to the large number of skid marks leading up to it.
See you next year! - Mark Smith & Susan Stronach (Team 23)
